Girl With the Golden Voice

Allie Mars – Girl With the Golden Voice.

Okay, maybe not golden, maybe just sweet and friendly. Through the years my voice has been described as sexy, sensual, sweet and friendly, unless I was in a bad mood
😉

Of the writers who didn’t hire me for their books, one wrote: “I’m looking for a deeper voice that sounds a little more like an ass-kicker, yours is a little too friendly.”

Another, who probably would have hired me had I auditioned for her books wrote that my voice was sexy and sensual. My husband and two ex-boyfriends totally agree with her.

As a narrator, you have to attach your voice to books that you can bring to life. This doesn’t always match what you want to do.

For example, I love fantasy worlds full of elves, trolls, witches and gnomes. Would my voice work in narrating such a book? I don’t know as I haven’t narrated an otherworldly fantasy yet.

On the other hand, my voice really brought a book to life where she was grieving over the death of a butterfly. I’m personally such a nature lover, and get so attached to my little friends, that I absolutely felt the emotion over that death. I didn’t just read her book into a microphone, I breathed life into it.

As many of my favorite moments in life are full of childlike wonder, children’s books are a good fit. Friendly, safe, and immersed in a kid’s world — that’s me!

Spiritual books would benefit from a friendly voice as well, especially when they match my own very strong beliefs. The power of my own beliefs carry into such books when I narrate, and my beliefs span several religious and spiritual realms.

Humor is a lot of fun, and I’ve auditioned for books that I badly wanted to narrate, which are still pending. The authors haven’t chosen a narrator yet so I’m still in the game 🙂

Being a big-time dog person, I love talking about dogs. And having previously been a cat lady that people predicted would end up as the weird lady on the corner with thirty cats, along with having a cat-friendly voice, makes cat books a good fit. Who knew I’d jump the fence halfway through life and become a dog person?

Science fiction aliens, and true life alien stories are big on my list. I came forward as an alien abductee in the book Alien Nightmares: Screen Memories of UFO Alien Abductions which I wrote and narrated. I would love to narrate similar books, as well as fictional accounts that don’t involve aliens eating people, or mindless alien monsters.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and the Taken television miniseries with Dakota Fanning are two of my all-time favorite fictional extraterrestial movies. In other words, thought-provoking aliens are right up my alley 🙂 Does my voice fit as a narrator? I don’t know, but I’d sure like to find out!

If you’re an author looking for a narrator, you can listen to my voice samples, and hire me, through ACX, an Amazon company.
